Started in 1950 by the Mennonite Central Committee, this group became a co-op in 1983. Surif are one of our most isolated groups, located near Hebron. The village suffers badly from roadblocks, adding to the cost of materials and transport, and the Separation wall will run close by. Many village families have lost large blocks of land to the wall and have become increasingly dependent on work from the co-operative, but transporting finished items to the customer is now impossible without outside help. The co-op can currently give work to only 270 of its 450 women members due to lack of sales of their excellent products.
